What you'll learn

Two styles, one floor

Each class blends warm-up, technique, musicality and partner work. We start with the foundation, then dig deeper into feeling and connection.

We feel first, then move.

Urbankiz

The urban evolution of Kizomba. Faster, groove-driven, playful — influenced by hip-hop, R&B and electronic music. The conversation between two bodies across the floor.

Groove · Energy · Connection

Tarraxo

The slow, deep, sensual side. Heavy bass, grounded posture, micro-movement and silence. Tarraxo is a feeling, not only a step.

Feeling · Control · Texture

Meet Dawou Tarraxo

Where Tarraxo
becomes poetry

From Afro-Caribbean roots to global festivals, I've spent over a decade building spaces where groove, control and connection meet. I started my dance journey in 2014, and by 2017 I was deep into the Tarraxo movement — training with the founders of the style, Kizzy and Gwany.

In 2020, I became an official Tarraxo dancer and created the first Tarraxo dancer team. Since then, I've taught weekly in Paris (2021–2023), London (2022–2023), and now Dubai — and I've performed and taught at festivals in 50+ countries across Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East.

Before dance, I spent 10+ years as an IT teacher. That pedagogical background shapes how I run my classes — clear structure, safe progression, real care for every dancer in the room.

Now I'm bringing this method to Dubai every Friday. Whether you're an absolute beginner or a seasoned dancer, this floor is for you.

FAQ

Before your first class

Whatever your level, you're welcome on this floor. Here are the most common questions before your first class.

I've never danced before — can I really come?
Yes, and you're exactly the person I want to meet. These classes are open to absolute beginners. No dance background, no partner, no prior knowledge needed. The first 15 minutes are designed to make you feel at ease — we warm up, we connect, we breathe. Then we start with the foundations.
What is Urbankiz?
The modern, urban evolution of Kizomba. Born from Angolan Kizomba, it grew in Paris into something more groove-oriented, faster, playful — influenced by hip-hop, R&B and electronic music. It keeps the partner connection but plays with breaks, pauses and stronger body expression.
What is Tarraxo?
The deeper, slower, more sensual side, rooted in Angolan culture. Tarraxo is a feeling, not only a step. Heavy bass, grounded posture, micro-movement, silence. It's about listening to music with your body and dancing the pauses as much as the notes. I've been spreading this style internationally since 2014, trained directly with its pioneers Kizzy and Gwany.
What's the difference between Urbankiz and Tarraxo?
Urbankiz travels — it moves across the floor, plays with energy. Tarraxo stays — it digs deep into a small space, into the bass, into the connection. Urbankiz is the conversation; Tarraxo is the whisper. Both share the same DNA. In my class we explore both — understanding one makes you better at the other.
Do I need a partner?
No. Come alone. We rotate partners during class — it's the fastest way to progress and the best way to meet the community. Rotation is always optional and respectful. If you prefer to stay with one person, that's fine too.
What level is required?
None. The class is structured in layers — beginners get the foundation, intermediate dancers refine technique, advanced dancers play with musicality and feeling. I've taught in 50+ countries to every kind of crowd. I adapt the class to the room, not the other way around.
How do I actually learn? What's the method?
I teach through the TOCA Method — four pillars built over 12+ years:
  • Touch — how to connect physically with your partner safely and clearly
  • Observation — how to read your partner, the music, and the space
  • Control — how to master your own body before leading or following
  • Awareness — how to feel the room, the bass, the moment
Each class blends technique drills, musicality work, and partner exercises. You leave with something concrete you can use on the social dance floor.
I've already danced Kizomba elsewhere — will I learn something new?
Yes. Experienced dancers tell me they discover things they thought they already knew: how to feel heavy and soft at the same time, how to stop over-dancing, how to play with isolation and pauses, how to keep your partner truly comfortable. The class is layered — you take what your body is ready to receive.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Dance shoes or clean indoor shoes with smooth soles — avoid sneakers with strong grip, you need to pivot. Bring water. That's it.
How do I pay? Drop-in or pack?
Two options: drop-in (pay per class, try before committing) or monthly pack (4 classes, better value). Payment on the spot (cash or card) or via WhatsApp transfer. Details when you book.
Can I come just once to try?
Absolutely. Drop in any Friday — no commitment, no pressure. If it's not for you, that's fine. If it is, you'll know within the first hour.
Is there a monthly masterclass?
Yes — one Saturday a month, I bring an international guest artist for a deeper session. Different theme each month. Announced via Instagram @dawou.tarraxo. Open to anyone who's been to a regular class.
Where exactly is the class?
Moov Nation, Mazaya BB2 Tower, JLT, Dubai. Premium studio, easy access, parking available. Nearest metro: DMCC.
Can I book a private lesson?
Yes. Private sessions are available on request — solo or couple. Great for fast-tracking, festival prep, or working on something specific. Message me on WhatsApp.
Who is Dawou — why trust you with my dance journey?
I've been teaching Tarraxo since 2014, in 50+ countries. Created the first official Tarraxo dancer team. Trained with the founders Kizzy and Gwany. Taught weekly in Paris, London, now Dubai. Former IT teacher with 10+ years of pedagogical experience. Full story on dawou-tarraxo.com.
